Persistence Pays Off @MelissaLimoges @DecadentPub #BHW

So I was thinking the other day…. What is it about shifters that romance readers love so much?
....From Alphas with hearts of gold to the Big Bad Wolf types, the quintessential shifter appears often in romantic fiction. And I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy them in my romance novels.
....Personally, I think it has to do with the unpredictability of a shifter’s character. I’m sure you know the sort I’m talking about. One moment, he’s growly and brooding. The next, he’s possessive to the extreme and would rip off anyone’s head who threatens his heroine. Another aspect that hooks me in shifter romances is the chase. How can you not fall a bit in fictional love with a persistent hero who is determined to snag his mate by any means possible?
....I suppose that describes my hero, Stephen, in Taming his Mate best. He stuck with his heroine, Kate, for years, trying to win her over, and refused to give up on her. I find it a bit endearing when a hero knows precisely what, or in this case, who he wants and doesn’t give up until he succeeds.

Taming His Mate
Black Hills Wolves Book 8
M. Limoges

....It’s a good thing Stephen Dorsett is a patient Wolf—especially since his stubborn mate refuses to accept the bond between them. Though she’s run from him for years, he’s determined to show her she belongs at his side. Nothing will stand between him and his sexy, spitfire she-Wolf.
....Kate Matthews lives with a horrible secret. And though she’s loved Stephen for as long as she can remember, she could never be the mate he wants or deserves—especially if he ever learned the truth about her.
....When hunters threaten the safety of the Black Hill’s Wolves pack, Kate overcomes her fears and lays her life on the line. Will Stephen and the rest of the pack accept her once her life-long plight is at last revealed?

Excerpt:
....A high-pitched howl reached through the barrier of sleep and tugged Kate Matthews into semi-consciousness. Rolling onto her side, she groaned and smothered her head beneath her pillow. Another bay penetrated the memory-foam fabric jammed over her ears. Throwing the cushion on the other side of the bed, she flopped on her back and stared at the ceiling fan as yet another howl shattered the last vestige of sleep.
....Damn it, Stephen.
....Kate flung the covers off her legs, jumped from the bed, and stomped across the chilly hardwood floor to her bedroom window. Squinting in the darkness, she spotted one of her tennis shoes beside her foot and grabbed it. Armed, she jerked the window open and hurled her makeshift missile at the large, gray wolf loitering on her back lawn. The beast swerved clear of the canvas bomb at the last second.
....An iridescent pop of light gave way to the human form of Stephen Dorsett. As moonlight illuminated his nude body, he gazed up at her, wearing an amused expression that pissed her off and turned her on at the same time.
....“And a good morning to you, Sunshine.” His voice oozed with syrupy sweetness, infuriating her more.

Portrait of a Lone Wolf @DecadentPub #BHW

....My name is Katalina Leon. Writing paranormal romance with wolf-shifters is my current obsession. I’ve got wolves on he brain. My contribution to the Black Hills Wolves series is “Portrait of a Lone Wolf” It’s book 7 in Decadent Publishing’s multi-author series. I’m happy to announce, I have a second book coming soon. I can’t wait to share it.
....I joined the Black Hills Wolves because Rebecca Royce invited me to. I love Rebecca. She’s someone I’d described as talented, generous and creative. I’ve worked with her on other book series and she is a high-integrity person. She’s an author to keep your eye on, and she’s here to stay. I can’t believe how much she accomplishes as an author on top of being a full time mother to three young boys. I have one boy, and I get exhausted just thinking about all she juggles.
....The Black Hills Wolves project has been in the works for two years. I signed on in March 2013. “Portrait of a Lone Wolf” is my first book in the series and my first contracted book with Decadent Publishing. The story introduces two lonely characters, Sela and Rio, who haven’t belonged to anyone or anything for a long while. Despite a rough start, they soon discover they make sense as life-mates. My heroine Sela Lopez, is a divorced, filmmaker. She arrives in the Black Hills intent on producing a documentary of the Black Hills beleaguered wolf population and gets a big surprise. The wolves of the Black Hills are more than they appear to be.

....My hero Rio Waya—“Waya” is Cherokee for wolf, is a retired Army Ranger. He’s spent his adult life on the move, and in deliberate avoidance of Black Hills wolf-pack dysfunction. At one time, an Alpha-tyrant named Magnum, did a generation of damage to the pack. With Magnum out of way, pack members in my books return to the Black Hills and begin to explore what life in a wolf-shifter community has to offer. Of course he’s tired of being a lone wolf and is ready to take a life-mate when unsuspecting Sela rolls into town…

....A mixed-blood Native American wolf-shifter, abandoned by a teenage mother and ignored by an absentee father, Rio Waya has never fit in or felt worthy of love. But when he comes home to the Black Hills, he realizes he wants a mate of his own.
....Recovering from a cheating ex who started a new family behind her back, Sela López seeks escape to pull her life back together. As a documentary filmmaker and wildlife photographer, she rents a cabin in the Black Hills with plans to film the beleaguered wolf population. But she’s so busy looking through a camera lens she doesn’t see trouble coming.
....Sparks fly as mutual fears and vulnerabilities surface when Sela and Rio meet. She can’t figure out why the mysterious Mr. Waya is so anxious about having a documentary made of the Black Hills Wolves. But when his secret is exposed, all hell breaks loose. Can Rio win Sela’s trust and soothe her fears about allowing a hunky wolf-shifter into her heart?

EXCERPT:
....Following her nose through the front door, she was thrust into a honky-tonk time warp. Bars like this one didn’t exist in Los Angeles. The Den was cozy enough but appeared to have been decorated by a taxidermist in the late seventies and zealously preserved since. The shaggy heads of several unfortunate buffalo dominated the far wall. At the front door, two stuffed raccoons offered a mock greeting with outstretched paws. The chairs, booths, and even a few of the tables were covered in forest green vinyl. No doubt a sticky misery to come in contact with on a hot day.
....Movement caught her eye. A burly man with an inscrutable expression rose from behind a counter as if he was part of a magic act. He was tall with a barrel chest. A nappy brown sweater coupled with hunched posture lent him a distinctly bearlike appearance.
....The dour gentleman focused on Sela with a frown. “Where did you come from?”
....Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” was cranked to eleven. She had to shout to be heard, “Can I order some food to go?”
....The saggy-faced Papa bear behind the counter appeared perturbed. “Fair warning, miss. The kitchen’s closed. Pretty sure we don’t have what you want.”
....The explosive clack of a pool cue making hard contact with a ball nearly drowned her out. “Except for you, everything’s closed in this town!”
....A few customers cast her a brief glance then looked away. The lucky bastards sat in front of pitchers of cold beer, towering hamburgers, paired with heaps of french fries or onion rings. Her stomach growled embarrassingly loud, but she doubted anyone could hear above the blaring music. “Something smells heavenly. Could I at least order onion rings to go?”
....Bear man shook his head. “Sorry. No can do. Fryer’s turned off.”
....“Really?” Digging through her purse, she wondered if this place would accept a credit card. “I’m willing to pay a little extra for the trouble.”
....With a sullen pout, he rubbed a limp rag across the countertop. “After hours The Den ain’t open to the general public. Guess what? It’s after hours.”
....“Oh, come on!” She sounded desperate.
....A man in a red plaid shirt, who appeared to be in his mid-thirties, sat at the counter. He shot her a smoldering look filled with mixed emotions. Perhaps he was angry or lost in thought. She couldn’t tell. The flash of fire in his eyes beneath brooding black brows was impossible to decipher. When he opened his mouth, the tough gravel voice of a drill sergeant rumbled out. “Gee, don’t be a hard ass. Get the lady some onion rings.”
....The lumbering hairy thing behind the counter, presumably named Gee, thrust out his bottom lip and lifted his hands into the air in mock surrender. “Why not? It’s not like my house rules ever get any respect anyway.”
....From the corner of her eye, Sela glimpsed a huge silver-furred canine dart from under a table, push a swinging door open with its muzzle, and disappear.
....“Did I just see a wolf?” Sela gasped.

Writing Colt @DecadentPub #BHW

I’ll admit when I started thinking about the Black Hills Wolves, in that now much discussed conference conversation with the amazing Heather Long, I thought only of Drew.  Writing the alpha of a multi-authored wolf pack is no small thing. I wanted him to be everything I imagined.

And then he was.  Wolf’s Return worked for me.  It was a beautiful, complete book.

I started to think about the future. Who would my next Black Hills character be? Well, that was when Colt came into existence. He was a difficult character? Why you might ask? Well, because he wanted to kill Drew.  Imagine that. As a writer I had to deal with a character who wanted to kill the hero of one of my most beloved books.

Loving Colt wasn’t easy for me. Yet, I did.  After a time, I came to adore Colt as much as I loved Drew and in some ways more since he had to handle not becoming alpha at the end of his book.  I hope you love my poor misunderstood Colt too.  He just needs to be loved.

When Hell Freezes
Black Hills Wolves Book 6
Rebecca Royce

....Colt Hannigan returns to the Black Hills Wolves Pack a changed and determined wolf. Thrown out after he stood against the former Alpha, he has no love for Drew Tao, the current Alpha. Colt plans to challenge Drew for leadership of the pack—until he lays eyes on Tasha, the woman he thought dead but whom he never forgot.
.... Permanently scarred after stepping between Colt and the former Alpha of the pack, Tasha survived for years by keeping her head down. Colt’s return is everything she’s desired, but she wants to live in a calm world surrounded by love, not another battle for dominance, which could destroy the newly-healed pack.
....Can Tasha convince Colt to find peace in her arms? Will the Black Hills Wolves pack survive outside attacks if they cannot mend the internal injuries of the past?

Genre: Contemporary, erotic romance, paranormal, shapeshifters, urban fantasy
Heat level: 4
Word count: 17k

EXCERPT:
....“I wish I could have killed him. I wish I’d been stronger sooner.” He looked up at the ceiling.
....“Well, I wish I could hop a jet plane and land in sunny Miami with a million dollars. Wishes are really pointless things. Let’s live in reality, shall we? Now, if you don’t want to kiss me, that’s fine. Forget I asked.” Tasha gasped almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth. What was with her? She never spoke to anyone in this manner.
....He yanked her against him. “You want me to kiss you?”
....His mouth pressed on hers, hard and unyielding. Even though she’d never been kissed before, she knew the one he gave her wasn’t meant to tantalize, but more as if he kissed her for punishment. He was mad. She could taste his anger.
....She pushed at his chest, and he deepened their embrace, gentling against her. Tasha knew she should pull away. He hadn’t kissed her nicely. All she could do was sigh against his mouth. He tasted like mint mixed with the smell of cloves, and she wanted to wrap herself around him.

A Note from Rebecca~
Hello Everyone,
Thank you so much for purchasing this book. It is my latest installment to the Black Hills Wolves series. When I first came up with the idea for this series, I was seated next to author Heather Long at a convention called The Naughty Sleepover. Two years later I cannot believe how amazing it has all turned out. It is a dream come true. I hope you like Colt and Tasha. They needed each other so much. Please feel free to contact me any time at BeccaGrim79@gmail.com or rebecca@rebeccaroyce.com

Sometimes all it takes is a Scene @DecadentPub #BlackHillsWolves

....That’s precisely how I came up with the idea for Claiming his Mate—just one scene.
....There are a lot of writers who plot and plan out their stories, typically creating a clear outline of where the story is going from page one. While I envy those writers, I just can’t do it. Every writer has their own specific way of writing. What works for some, won’t work for others.
....For me, it just takes visualizing one scene, then I pick up from there and build the story around that scene. In Claiming his Mate, the first scene that popped in my head was the exchange between Michelle and Jace in her bookstore. I imagined a mix-up with the book Jace grabbed and Michelle’s reaction. Since I have a weird sense of humor, I thought it might be a nice way for the hero and heroine to break the ice, so to speak. After that first chapter, the rest of the short story fell into place.

Claiming His Mate
Black Hills Wolves Book 5
M. Limoges
Blurb:
....Member of the Black Hills Pack in Los Lobos, South Dakota, Jace Matthews is sent to check out the new owner of a piece of land adjoining his packs. Once he steps into her small bookstore in Collins, he’s taken by surprise by the small, prim woman behind the counter. At once, he recognizes his mate. While the wolf inside urges him to complete the bond, Jace knows he must take his time with his human mate. But when danger arises, threatening Michelle’s life, Jace is done waiting. It’s time to claim his mate.
....After she inherits her aunt’s property, Michelle Sanders moves to Collins, South Dakota, to escape the monotony of her routine life. Unfortunately, the only person she manages to befriend is not only the hottest guy on the planet, but also gay. However, she never expects a favor for her sexy new friend to result in a series of weird events that will change her life forever.
Excerpt:
....Jace Matthews’ eyes followed the rhythmic sway of his mate’s heart-shaped ass as she walked up the aisle to the sales counter. Damn, he couldn’t wait to strip her bare and sink his teeth into that tender flesh. Suddenly, those tempting globes stopped. He blinked and his gaze shot up to find Michelle frowning over her shoulder at him.
....Shit.
....Embarrassed she’d caught him staring, he snatched the closest book on the shelf beside him, waving it in the air like a kid who’d won a life-sized stuffed animal at the county fair. “Got it. Thought it might be out of stock.”
....Real smooth, jackass.
....She arched a delicate brow over the rim of her glasses. “Are you ready to check out, Jace?”
....“Yep, I think this’ll do it.” He soaked up the sound of her sweet voice and followed her to the register.
....Two months ago, when he’d come to check out the new owner of a large parcel of land adjoining his pack’s hunting territory, he damn sure hadn’t expected to find Michelle Sanders. Once he’d stepped inside the small, quaint bookstore she’d owned in Collins, he’d caught a scent that had eluded him for thirty-two years.
....His mate.
